Getting to know Jackie- our future Marine Mammal Specialist

It was a sight similar to the clip above that confirmed her decision to make a drastic shift in career path, from planning schedules for the CEO in the confines of the corporate office to the vast abundance of the gentle oceans- to plan the daily activity of dolphins.

About the state of dolphins

There has been some discussion about the state of the dolphins in our care.  Allow us to provide you the background.

We believe that now, more than ever, zoological parks are needed, as increasingly throughout the world, we see the blurring of boundaries between wild animals and humans.  We note with anguish the plight of the amazing marine life in our oceans, as they fight for survival against environmental disasters.  The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the earthquake/reactor meltdown in Japan are just two recent examples that will continue to challenge the survival of animal life in the wild for decades to come.

What’s Up Doc?

The first item that caught my eye in the stark white office is a framed picture that looked oddly out of place. It was a photograph of a punk rock band. I studied the picture and came to the startling realization that one of the punk rockers is sitting just in front of me.

Meet Dr Christopher Torno – my new friend here at Subic Bay, and an ex-punk rocker turned veterinarian.
